Many Westchester communities are already transit-oriented – having developed their down- towns around a train station. Communities such as Tuckahoe, Rye and Chappaqua are walkable, mixed- use communities with transit access in the commu- nity center.
New transit-oriented developments are un- derway in Harrison, Bronxville, Elmsford, Mama- roneck, New Rochelle, Ossining, Tarrytown, Yon- kers and White Plains.
Line and offer an alternative route to Grand Central Terminal. The project would:
• Substantially reduce travel times.
• Provide a new train ride—without transfers— from New Haven Line communities to Man- hattan’s West Side.
• Improve regional connectivity and mobility by linking Metro-North, LIRR, New Jersey Transit and Amtrak.
Plans to add Metro-North stations in the Bronx would also introduce convenient, direct rail service to communities under-served by mass transit, as well as connect the East Bronx workforce with em- ployers from communities along the New Haven Line in Westchester and Connecticut.
ON THE HORIZON
Plans are under consideration for a Bus Rapid Tran- sit (BRT) system along the Interstate 287 corridor. BRT is a mass transit option that uses specialized buses to rapidly move people along a fixed route. Learn more about Westchester’s extensive Bee-Line System on page 49.
WESTCHESTER COUNTY AIRPORT
With more than 1,300 employees, Westchester County Airport is the number two corporate airport in the United States and a major county employer.
The airport now enjoys direct access to Miami International Airport, with twice-daily non- stop service from the county-owned and operated airport to the Florida city through its American Eagle network. JetBlue services Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Orlando, Tampa and West Palm Beach, while United Airlines offers daily service to Chicago.

PENN STATION
Preliminary design is underway to bring Metro- North trains into Penn Station via the New Haven Line, resulting in a faster reverse commute to West- chester’s growing employment hubs.
