WHO WE ARE
The Kuehne Chemical Company is a 100-year-old, family owned company with operations in Delaware for 30
years. It was founded in 1919 by the Kuehne (pronounced Key-knee) family in Newark, New Jersey. In 1965 Kuehne built its first chlor-alkali plant in Elizabeth, New Jersey, acquired The Chloramone Corporation in New Castle, DE in 1989, in 1998 the Delaware Plant built a first of its kind in the United States brine to bleach (BTB) chlor-alkali plant, in 2015 built a state of the art BTB process in Kearny, NJ, and in 2019 acquired the BTB plant and assets of New Haven Chlor Alkali Company bringing a third production plant into Kuehne’s portfolio and increasing our market
in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions.
STUFF WE MAKE
Kuehne is a producer of high strength sodium hypochlorite (bleach), caustic soda and hydrochloric
acid liquids used primarily in water and waste water treatment. Kuehne is by far the largest supplier of sodium hypochlorite in the Mid-Atlantic region supplying bleach to many of the municipalities from Fairfax County, VA north into Massachusetts. Our primary method of producing bleach is from the electrolysis of salt to generate chlorine gas which we immediately react into bleach. This process is considered the best inherently safest technology
(IST) in the industry for producing bleach. Our plants operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

by the United Steel Workers Local 13788. Our largest staff positions are our chemical operators and Class
A CDL Hazmat endorsed transportation drivers. Our hourly work force also employs instrumentation and electrical technicians, machinists, welders, pipe fitters, general duty mechanics and diesel fleet mechanics. Our salary staff includes human resource administrators, purchasing agents, health safety and environmental engineers, laboratory technicians, engineers as well
as many production and maintenance supervisors.
