It’s time to take
flight! This museum
is the world’s oldest continuously operating airport. Founded by Wilbur Wright in 1909 to train military aviators, the airport draws visitors year-round with its
hands-on activities
for children and the preserved collection of historic and reproduced aircraft associated with the airport’s history.
DINOSAUR PARK
(pgparks.com/3259/ Dinosaur-Park)
Located in the area of Laurel, this park holds
a rare deposit of fossils from the Cretaceous period — the last portion of the “Age of Dinosaurs” — dating between 145.5 and 65.5 million years ago. It also includes the bones and teeth of an Astrodon johnstoni (the Maryland State Dinosaur) and the remains of early flowering plants. New fossils are still being discovered at the site, and visitors can dig too! Hundreds of fossils found by visitors have been collected and catalogued over the years.
