orging Ahead,” the 12th Annual Women in Maritime
History Event, drew a record crowd to the Sparrows Point
Country Club on March 31. The breakfast event provided a
chance for women to celebrate and share the successes
of their colleagues across the maritime industries.
This year’s program began with a keynote address from Mark
Reutter, author of
Making Steel: Sparrows Point and the Rise and Ruin
of American Industrial Might
. He related stories of the women who
worked in mills inspecting paper-thin sheets of tinned steel bound for
the production of tin cans.
Augustine Moore of the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol was
honored as this year’s “Woman of the Year,” and was joined by panelists
Marie Burns, Chief of Operations Division for the U.S. Army Corps of
Engineers, Baltimore District; Sharon Duboin, Resident Vice President
for State Government and Community Affairs at CSX Transportation;
and Marge Troy, Owner and President of ProCargo, Inc., a licensed
international freight forwarder.
