Forestry and Environmental Camps
The North Carolina Forestry Association (NCFA) hosted its final Forestry and Environmental Camps of the year in Raleigh on October 14, 2019 and in
Wilmington on November 4-8, 2019.
The Raleigh camp at Kentwood Park hosted more than 150
fifth-grade students, teachers and chaperones from A.B. Combs Magnet Elementary School. Camp attendees participated in activities that highlighted the field of forestry and the wood products industry. Hands-on activities focused on wildlife, forest management, dendrology, history and land measurement.
The Wilmington camp, held at Hugh MacRae Park, hosted the sixth-grade students of Roland Grise Middle School
and Charles P. Murray Middle School. Over 600 students, teachers and chaperones participated throughout the week. Wilmington features unique events like the Bucket Brigade Competition and the Volunteer/Teacher Appreciation Dinner. Congratulations to Ms. Oakley from Charles P. Murray Middle School for being the 2019 camp winner!
Both camps concluded with a presentation from the NCFA’s sponsored guest speaker, Bob Alderink from the
NC Museum of Natural Sciences. Thank you to all NCFA members who volunteered during the 2019 camp season! In total, we had almost 150 professionals from across the state assist with educational programming. We hope that you will continue to volunteer in 2020!
