Eastern Membership Spotlight (Part 2 of 3)
Charles Jones, Forest Landowner
NCFA sits down with long-time member Charles Jones of Trenton to discuss forest landownership in eastern North Carolina.
We recently visited loyal North Carolina Forestry Association (NCFA) member Charles Jones as part of our mini-series focusing on membership in each region of North Carolina. Jones, a native of Trenton, NC, offered his unique perspective on forest landownership in the eastern portion of the state. He owns and operates Brock Motor Company in Trenton, and has a farm that spans over 4,000 acres. The majority of the farm is in intensively managed timberland, with approximately 240 acres cleared for agricultural rotation.
“I have always been passionate about forest land- ownership,” Jones said. “It means a lot to me personally. I continually try to take care of this renewable resource, and I am very proud of what I have.”
Jones recalled that he did not have any background in forestry when he graduated college. “I bought two forestry textbooks to educate myself, and I made friends that were trained foresters to help me along
