in the near term, it will be interesting to see if owners repeat history or mitigate losses and keep supplies flowing in the coming months.
The continued effects of the pandemic, unemployment, civil unrest and an increasingly contentious election on
the horizon have combined to create historic levels of uncertainty in global markets. It’s too early to tell how much of this uncertainty will be temporary, but
I suspect there will be some structural changes going forward that will result in prolonged economic impacts. In other words, I don’t think we’re going to be able to snap our fingers in the coming months and go back to the way things were just a year ago, for instance.
However, as I have noted above, North Carolina’s forest industry is healthy and vibrant. Like the larger U.S. forest industry, there are tremendous opportunities on the horizon for the state’s forest value chain: Anti-plastics initiatives are driving new demand for creative paper and packaging solutions; cross-laminated timber is changing the way we build; bioenergy
