    EDUCATION PROGRAMS
 Focus on Forestry Careers
The North Carolina Forestry Association’s (NCFA) Education Programs Manager, Amy Juliana, started a new education initiative last year to promote a better understanding of different career paths available in the
field of forestry and the wood products industry.
“There is a growing need for students to pursue forestry in the state of North
Carolina. We need to connect young people to natural resource careers by sharing our story, highlighting our work and promoting our industry. This resource will serve as an introduction to our many opportunities and pathways,” said Juliana.
Each career profile explains key elements of the job, such as day-to-day responsibilities, education and experience needed to perform essential job duties, average salary for the specified occupation, and the skills needed to be successful in that position. The profile also spotlights working professionals and their advice and insight to students.
The Focus on Forestry Careers initiative received a grant from the Sustainable Forestry Initiative-State Implementation Committee (NC SFI-SIC). The NC SFI-SIC grant will allow NCFA to create a booklet of North Carolina forestry career profiles, which in turn will be shared with professionals and educators across the state.
NCFA’s Focus on Forestry Careers profiles are currently available on our website, www.ncforestry.org. At press time, six careers have been profiled. Juliana continues to spotlight professionals, and is still looking to highlight other careers in the forest industry to add to the project. If you are willing to be interviewed, please contact her at ajuliana@ncforestry.org for details.
