 MSD Delivers Mandatory Compliance Training to Your Office

and mandatory OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens training for the safety
of your patients and staff as well as for the protection of patient records.
Since their inception, the HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules have focused on health care providers, health plans, and other entities that process health insurance claims. But the changes announced in
2013 expanded many of the requirements to covered entities (you, the practice) and business associates, such as contractors and subcontractors, with increased penalties
for noncompliance based on the level of negligence. Penalties can be as high as
$1.5 million per violation. That is why compliance training is essential. Below is an outline of what MSD’s training covers.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Bloodborne Pathogens Standard, incorporating the Needlestick Safety and Prevention Act of 2000, is designed to protect at-risk employees from exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials. BLOODBORNE PATHOGENS
are viruses, bacteria, and other microorganisms in human blood or other potentially infectious materials that
can cause disease in persons who are exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials containing the pathogens. These microorganisms
can include Hepatitis B Virus (HBV), Hepatitis C Virus (HCV), Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), and many others.
MSD’s Training & Compliance Coordinator, Dwayne Downs, is a Navy veteran and holds certifications in Medical Office Management, HIPAA, OSHA, and Medical Terminology, with experience in health care compliance. Dwayne is also BLS certified by the American Heart Association.
