 ADVOCACY
    Join DELPAC today
and make a difference!
Joseph J. Straight, MD; Mark B. Thompson, MHSA
As you know, we have an excellent and active Government Affairs team advocating on our behalf
in Legislative Hall, but there is another piece of the “advocacy equation” that is just as critical as our physical presence in Dover.
That other piece is DELPAC — the political action committee of the Medical Society of Delaware. Whether it’s issues related to:
• Reforming prior authorization,
• Scope-of-practice challenges,
• Improving access to primary care,
• Protecting the patient-physician relationship,
• Controlled substance regulations,
• The hassle factor of dealing with insurance companies,

• Restoring full funding of DIMER,
• The ever-changing landscape of implementing health care reform, or
• The “disease du jour” that the General Assembly attempts to tackle...
...It is both critical and imperative that our voice as the community of physicians from across the state be heard clearly in Dover. DELPAC is an effective way to
do this.
Being a member of DELPAC enables

for our patients and our profession. Your contribution will enable DELPAC to:
• Provide campaign support for those who support our profession,
• Educate those who are not knowledgeable about the issues,
• Personally interview candidates in key races to determine their position on key issues of primary importance to Delaware’s physicians,
• Advance medicine’s agenda with every state candidate in every race in Delaware, and
• Co-host with MSD a Candidates Forum in October to provide a direct networking opportunity for you with the candidates.
Without your support, DELPAC’s diminished and our voice as physicians is heard less clearly by our legislators.
Obviously, the more members we have, the more funds at our disposal, and the can support.
The Carney administration and the General Assembly will set policy that impacts you and your patients. Whether that policy is good or bad is up to you. The practice of medicine will continue to be challenged
by legislation and needless regulations that will affect you. Additionally, we will face challenges by entities that are well- organized and well-funded.
Now is the time for Delaware physicians to unite and help us identify those who are pro-medicine as well as to educate those who aren’t informed about the impact of the decisions they make.
For those of you who have contributed, THANK YOU! For those of you who have not given yet, please contact Mark B. Thompson, MHSA at Mark.Thompson@ medsocdel.org or call 302-444-6958
and we’ll gladly help you in becoming a member.
