PRESIDENT’S PAGE
If there is one thing I have learned as president of MSD it is that we physicians have the ability to effect change in a positive way.
More recently, the State of Delaware
has embarked on an ambitious plan to
rein in the rise of health care spending. This multi-pronged approach is outlined in Secretary of Health Dr. Kara Odom- Walker’s white paper titled Delaware’s Road to Value. A team of thoughtful and intelligent MSD physicians and staff worked together to create a constructive statement that demonstrates our willingness to be engaged as a physician community. Know that MSD will staunchly advocate for processes that actually improve the health of our patients and the physician-patient relationship
and against those that overburden (both

burned-out physician work force.
Our Health Hub, LLC subsidiary vetted several telemedicine products this year. MSD received a great deal of publicity by local print, radio, and television media in regard to these efforts. Unlike many telemedicine products on the markets, MEND, a preferred product supported by MSD, is one that allows secure video-conferencing between patients and their own physicians at a reasonable cost. Providing this option of communication between patients and their already established doctors allows for continuity of care.
If there is one thing I have learned as president of MSD it is that we physicians have the ability to effect change in a positive way. There has never been a more important time for physicians to be thought leaders and advocates with the ultimate goal of maintaining the safety of Delawareans and the integrity of our profession.
I am thrilled to see Dr. Richard Henderson assume the role of our next president. Dr. Henderson has led the highly effective Government Affairs Committee for the last several years. In this role, he has revealed himself to be a thoughtful and physicians and patients. I am certain he will carry on his tradition of doing great things for MSD in 2018. Congratulations, Dr. Henderson!
It has been a humbling honor to serve as your president for 2017. There are many people who were instrumental in allowing me to perform my duties as President over the course of this past year. I would like to thank the physicians who volunteer to serve on our board and various committees for their support, time, and critical evaluation of the issues that face
our membership. Thank you to our
exceptional MSD staff for their hard work in carrying out our mission “to guide, serve, and support Delaware physicians, promoting the practice and profession of medicine to enhance the health of our communities.” To my practice, Nephrology Associates: thank you for allowing me the time to travel across the state to meet with physicians, advocate for a healthier Delaware. To my secretary, Michelle Rath, and my patients who put up with the occasional sudden schedule change, I appreciate your understanding. And last, but certainly not least, my wonderful wife, Jayshree, and my two loving (and mischievous) daughters, Amrita and Priyanka, who allowed me to be an absentee husband and father for the representing the most noble profession on Earth. To them, I am forever indebted.
Prayus Tailor, M.D.
