and outpatient center, as well as a medical office building where pediatricians and specialists affili- ated with the Nemours Children’s Health System will offer pediatric services not previously available in Sussex, says Terry Murphy, Bayhealth’s presi- dent and CEO. At the new site, “we’ve expanded our cardiac capability, with extended cardiac testing services, along with cardiac catheterization and interventional radiology services,” he adds. “We’re also expanding our robotic surgery capabilities.” ID

THE TOWER AT STAR: WHERE HEALTH-SCIENCE INNOVATION HAPPENS DAILY
When people with different perspec- tives come together to solve a problem in a new way, innovation is often the result. That’s what the University of Del- aware’s new Tower at STAR is designed to enable.
“STAR has been amazing for cultivat- ing this environment of collisions that lead to collaborations,” says Kathleen Matt, dean of UD’s College of Health Sciences. “It’s people running into each other, realizing they’re interested in similar questions and then working on finding answers together.”
On the tower’s seven floors, the college has found new ways to connect with other disciplines, and with the community, in advancing research in the health sciences. Key components include: u A spacious atrium with a living plant
wall, designed to help people meet
and exchange ideas.
u A demonstration kitchen, where
students of nutrition and dietetics teach cooking classes for diabetes patients.
u An herb garden, where students study both the health and the medicinal benefits of herbs.
u A health innovation and design lab, where students design wearable tech- nology with health-monitoring capabili- ties, using 3D printers and scanners.
u An exercise intervention space, where patients in cardiac, pulmonary or renal rehab come to use workout equipment and be monitored.
u Classrooms where students from different disciplines learn together.
u Spaces where students can use virtual-reality technology to simulate real patient environments.
