Pieces of the Past
The Brandywine region is a vast and rich hunting ground for artifacts.
Awell-written history book, a riveting documentary or a personal family genealogical chart are great vehicles for telling us about the past. Local museums are perfect for showing us the past. But there’s nothing like discovering a piece of the past first-hand. Our region is a half-hidden treasure trove of lost or abandoned places and objects. Prominent examples include the forgotten settlements of the Lenape First Americans, discarded household and craft items from colonial settlements, battleground remnants from the Revolutionary War, and leftovers from the dozens of agricultural and industrial mills that once lined the banks of rivers and streams.
