GFC and Georgia Forest Research Council (GFRC) relocate headquarters from Atlanta to Macon.

Forest Insect and Disease Control Program established.

Planting season sees America’s billionth pine seedling planted at the Georgia Forestry Center.

Organized fire
protection expands
to all 159 counties;
Rural Fire Defense (RFD) Program initiated.
1987
Flint River Nursery established to meet growing demand for tree seedlings, bringing total GFC seedlings available to 200 million.
        1986
Conservation Reserve Program initiated. Georgia leads the nation in acreage committed to conservation.
