More events for your arts calendar:
Spruce Forest Artisan Village (spruceforest. org) hosts seven resident artists permanently, and many visiting artists during the summer. Shakespeare in the Village and the annual Christmas in the Village are among the most popular events. There is a full schedule of classes and workshops from May through November.
Glassblowing demonstrations at Simon Pearce factory outlet and workshop (simonpearce. com), long a popular spot in Mountain Lake Park, are another year-round favorite.
Music at Penn Alps (musicatpennalps.org) is a summer series of primarily classical programs, with the focus on chamber
ensembles and recitals performed by local artists. Two programs in the series explore different genres of distinctly American popular and folk music.
The Garrett County Celtic Festival (gccelticfestival.com) celebrates the heritage, music, arts and culture of the Appalachian immigrants from Scotland, Ireland, Wales and Brittany. The celebration takes place June 1, 2019 at the town park in Friendsville.
Summertime means outdoor concerts
at Oakland’s Little Yough Summer Music Festival (oaklandmd.com/ly-schedule. html) and at the Stage Wisp Concert Series (wispresort.com/events).
My Deep Creek Experience
“What’s not to love?
Garrett County provides
something fun to do
for every season. I can
leave work and go right
out onto the slopes in
the winter or hop on
a boat in the summer.
It’s wonderful to go
to a coffee shop or
restaurant where there’s
always a friendly face. Not to mention it takes me only about 10 minutes to get
to and from the office — which beats
city traffic any day! I find there are many accessible opportunities for someone my age. There is a wonderful close-knit group of young adults that enjoy networking and providing each other mutual professional development within the community. The small-town feel provides you with the building blocks for growth and knowledge without the hustle and bustle of a corporate setup. The beautiful area makes it easy to work hard and play harder!”
