WE’RE AN OUTDOOR ENTHUSIAST’S DREAM! Garrett County has boundless hiking and biking trails, slopes to ski and hills to sled. Pristine lakes are prime for summertime fun. Our rustic countryside overflows with activities for adventure lovers.
  Hiking
Garrett County is home to 40 trails ready to be navigated by novice hikers or experienced outdoor enthusiasts. Deep Creek Trail is perfect for a family stroll, with a half-mile trail that ends at Wisp Resort. Paths also run along wetlands that were originally part of Buffalo Swamp before Deep Creek Lake was developed. Fork Run Recreation Area Trails consist of more than 9 miles of pet-friendly trails surrounded
by magnificent woods. Kendall Trail is another natural destination that spans 3 miles and has scenic views of the Youghiogheny River, a popular spot for kayakers. Herrington to Swallow Falls Trail is a good novice trail with a mostly flat surface that winds five miles through Garrett State Forrest. This scenic trail includes old logging roads and a historic railroad bed.
For more information on county trails, contact Garrett Trails at garretttrails.org.
State park information is available on pages 62 and 63; overnight camping requires a permit.
Winter Activities at Wisp
Wisp Resort (wispresort.com) is home to 34 slopes, spanning 172 acres, for skiing and snowboarding tailored to all levels of experience — beginners, intermediates and experts. Lessons are available from qualified instructors, and lights illuminate the hills for nighttime activities. There are also dozens
of trails and several Terrain Parks
with jumps, boxes, rails and other
features to cater to freestyle
skiers and snowboarders. Visitors love the Mountain Coaster, a mix
of an alpine slide and a roller coaster with stunning views of Deep Creek Lake. The Nordic Center, also located on the premises, offers snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. And the whole family can enjoy snow tubing at the Wisp Mountain Park, located near the ice rink.
