IN GARRETT COUNTY, THERE’S
Another great teambuilding activity: A
visit to Deep Creek Lake Adventures’ Monkey Business Adventure Park (deepcreeklakeadventure.com/activity/deep- creek-monkey-business-adventure-park/park) — it’s the largest aerial adventure park in the tri-state area. You’ll find about 80 elements and ziplines on an obstacle course that encourages participants to work together to reach their goals.
If you’re planning an executive retreat, many of our vacation rental properties offer great views and luxury amenities such as hot tubs. (Not to mention proximity to great golf courses!) In addition, our local lodges and B&Bs provide fantastic settings for your team to come together in a relaxing atmosphere.
Military Reunions
Veterans enjoy free admission at Garrett County’s state parks (see page 16)! A great time to plan a military reunion to Garrett County is March, when the Chamber’s Military March promotion provides a range of discounts to military members and their families. You might receive 20% off your shopping at certain stores or save 10% on your vacation rental. For 2018 discounts, check visitdeepcreek.com.
Getaways with Friends
Many of the venues and activities mentioned above work great for a girls’ getaway or for a bridal/groomsmen trip as well!
For ultimate relaxation and rejuvenation,
try Massage At The Lake Day Spa (massageatthelake.com) or Haley Farm Inn & Retreat Center (haleyfarm.com). Gather around the table with friends and family, cooking together in your own kitchen or experiencing one of our many delicious dining options.
All Earth Eco Tours (allearthecotours.com)
is a great choice for group outings on the water and in the forest. The company offers guided kayak tours and other nature-friendly group activities that include river walks, yoga in nature and a farm day camp. For a relaxing outdoor group outing, enjoy a round of golf at one of our many scenic golf courses.
Fun in Numbers
DO YOU HAVE A FAMILY OR MILITARY REUNION COMING UP? Maybe you’re planning a girls’ getaway, a trip with your groomsmen or a corporate retreat? Many area attractions will happily accommodate large groups, and our mountain vistas
and small towns are sure to make for the perfect backdrop.
If you need help lining up vendors and itineraries for your outing, our Chamber experts are a great resource. We will help you select venues, create customized itineraries and serve as a point of contact with lodging and transportation providers. For more information, contact our Heritage Area & Groups Director, Jen Durben, at jen@garrettchamber.com or 301.387.5238.
Family Reunions
If your family members are scattered across the Mid-Atlantic or Midwest regions, Deep Creek Lake is a great central location for a reunion. Garrett County is less than 90 miles from Pittsburgh, less than 200 miles from Baltimore and Washington, D.C., and less than 250 miles from Columbus and Cleveland.
Garrett County’s parks, including Deep Creek Lake State Park (dnr.maryland.gov/ publiclands/pages/western/deepcreek.aspx) and Swallow Falls State Park (dnr.maryland. gov/publiclands/pages/western/swallowfalls.
aspx), offer picnic areas and pavilions if you’d like to host a barbecue. (For colder times of the year, there are plenty of catering options as well: visitdeepcreek.com/list/category/ catering-27.)
Your lodging choices run the gamut from forest campgrounds to 10-bedroom lakeside rental homes. There is a great selection
of vacation rental companies and rent-by- owner options. They can help select the best vacation home to fit your needs. Or, get back to nature with one of our many campgrounds that feature tent camping, cabins and RV setup. You’ll wake up to some of Maryland’s most breathtaking scenery.
Corporate Retreats, Meetings and Team Building
Wisp Resort (wispresort.com) is an ideal location for your corporate group outings, with ample meeting and conference space as well as a variety of custom teambuilding programs.
Escape rooms have become one of the most popular teambuilding activities in recent years, and Wisp Resort has you covered there as well. At Race to the Slopes (wispresort.com/escape- games), your group takes on the identity of
a ski shop worker who needs to complete a series of puzzles to find a misplaced lift ticket that will help you solve the final riddle before you can hit the slopes!
