TREAT YOUR TASTE BUDS TO GARRETT COUNTY
Cuisine
GARRETT COUNTY’S DINING SCENE IS ECLECTIC: You’ll find traditional, down- home cooking as well as fusion tacos and craft beer. You’ll also notice that many restaurants have embraced the farm- to-table trend — after all, the farm is probably just down the road.
You can eat at a craft brewery that serves its own microbrews or stop by a cafe to sample baked goods that reflect the region’s strong Mennonite and Amish influences. If you’re planning an outdoor excursion, you can pick up boxed lunches from one of several local delicatessens and other eateries.
Wendy’s Towne Restaurant in Oakland (facebook.com/pages/wendys-towne- restaurant/237154586345087) is a great place to stop for downhome cooking. Breakfast is served all day, but make sure you leave room for the restaurant’s pulled BBQ beef, and in the fall, try the buckwheat cakes.
Another venue that prides itself on
local, handcrafted food is Moonshadow (moonshadow145.com) in McHenry. It’s a great spot for Sunday brunch, weekday happy hour, craft brews and live music.
The Cornucopia Cafe (thecornucopiacafe. com) in Grantsville is another great brunch option, offering both inventive creations and breakfast classics, including crepes, avocado toast and Belgian waffles. Look for vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options.
Heidi’s Bakery & Cafe (facebook.com/ heidisbakeryandcafe) in Oakland earned its five-star Yelp rating by serving delicious, homemade food. Try the loaded baked potato soup!
