Grantsville Museum
(garrettcountymuseums.com/ grantsvillemuseum.html): A small community museum, this collection features the photos of the late poet and photographer Leo Beachy, whose glass plate negatives show western Maryland in the early 20th century. Other exhibits offer a
look at key community events with artifacts from nearby residents.
Friendsville Interactive History Tour (friendsville.org/historytour): Visitors can immerse in local town history through this self-guided tour along with online interactive features, sign markers and map.
Sang Run State Park (dnr. maryland.gov/publiclands/Pages/ western/sangrun.aspx): The Maryland Park Service recently designated an 1800s home site, farm and store along Sang Run Road as a state park. The Historic Friends Store originally sold food and gas, but was also used to trade ginseng with local residents. Today’s visitors to the store can buy penny candy, old-time soda and various souvenirs, or ask the storekeeper to entertain them with tales of 19th-century life.
Weddings
Garrett County’s wealth of natural beauty — from mountaintop to shoreline, in an open field or woodsy glen, with a waterfall or a

perfect sunset as the backdrop — is just one reason to choose the area for a destination wedding. The Garrett County Chamber
of Commerce publishes a free wedding guide, available online and by mail. The guide includes regulations for obtaining a marriage license and beautiful imagery of local venues. As the big day approaches, the Chamber can provide visitors guides for welcome bags distributed to guests by the bride and groom.
