TO UNIQUE SHOPPING, DINING & ART
Garrett County’s dining scene is eclectic: You’ll find traditional, down-home cooking as well as fusion tacos and craft beer. You’ll also notice that many restaurants have embraced the farm- to-table trend — after all, the farm is probably just down the road. After lunch, make sure to explore Garrett County’s many independently owned stores for antiques, jewelry and unique arts and crafts.
Shopping
The first stop on your shopping tour should be downtown Oakland, which has a thriving, unique shopping district. Stop by the
Book Mark’et & Antique Mezzanine (thebookmkt.com) on South 2nd Street, a spacious independent bookstore with a large selection
of children’s books, or visit Artists and Dreamers (facebook.com/ lincreates) for artwork and other handcrafted items.
Another great destination
for gifts and collectibles is Schoolhouse Earth in Friendsville (schoolhouseearth.com). Along with home and garden products, you’ll find jewelry, children’s gifts, books and more. There’s also a Christmas shop open year-round, free gourmet food samples daily, and your kids or grandkids will love
the petting zoo. While in McHenry, be sure to visit Schoolhouse Earth’s sister store, Gourmet & More, which offers gourmet food, gifts and kitchen gadgets.
