Many consider the fishing at Deep Creek Lake to be the highlight
of a memorable visit. Fly-fishing
is popular in the Youghiogheny, Savage and Casselman rivers and along the north branch of the Potomac River. If you’d like to
take lessons or experience Garrett County’s world-class fly-fishing with an experienced guide, you’ll find a
list of resources at visitdeepcreek. com/list/category/fly-fishing-56.
Peaceful paddling is available across seven flatwater lakes
and down numerous rivers. The smaller lakes at Herrington Manor State Park, New Germany State Park, Savage River Reservoir and Broadford Lake Park welcome non- gas powered boats.
One of the biggest challenges about golfing in Garrett County
is staying focused on the game instead of the gorgeous scenery. Consider the impressive Hale Irwin- designed Lodestone Golf Course (wispresort.com/lodestone), which is located on a ridge overlooking Deep Creek Lake. At 2,973 feet above sea level, it boasts the highest elevation of any venue in Maryland. Forty-mile views are par for the course.
