Hello, Spring
Spring is the perfect time to
visit Garrett County. The warmer weather heralds the arrival of new outdoor activities.
In November 2017, a new hiking
trail was unveiled near Grantsville — the second phase of the Meadow Mountain Trail, which connects to I-68 and could eventually reach all the way to Deep Creek Lake State Park.
The trail runs along a 14-mile stretch roughly parallel to Route 495, but has multiple access points that allow visitors to enjoy shorter sections at a time. One of the county’s best overlooks can be found along Meadow Mountain Trail, .75 miles south of where it intersects Frank Brenneman Road.
The Meadow Mountain Trail is part of a larger regional trail system known as the Eastern Continental Divide Loop Trail (ECDLT). The ECDLT connects state, federal
and private lands with population centers and is recognized as part of the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail network, connecting to the Great Allegheny Passage north of Grantsville and Friendsville.
Though some visitors might prefer putting the pedal to the metal while go-karting at McHenry-based amusement centers, others will enjoy seeing Garrett County’s natural setting from the seat of a motorcycle or bike.
The Motorcycle Rides Tour (visitdeepcreek.com/pages/ motorcycleridestour) takes you through the natural surroundings of our lakes, rivers, pastures and rolling mountainsides. There are plenty of places to stop and rest, eat or just hang out to watch the people go by.
