2017 Events The Ministry of Caring is the benefi-
ciary of several fun and exciting fund- raising events each year. The Guild, a membership organization of committed volunteers, plays a key role in organizing and making these events successful. The Ministry’s full calendar and more infor- mation about the Guild can be found at www.ministryofcaring.org.
• On Feb. 25, the Ministry will hold its annual Mardi Gras celebration, with live music and authentic Creole food from Fat Rick’s BBQ. Box Turtle Bob and The Original Chesapeake Bayou Brothers will perform. The festivities will be held at New Castle County Irish Society, 1301
S. Rodney St. in Wilmington. Proceeds from the event benefit House of Joseph II, a permanent residence for men and wom- en diagnosed with the advanced stages of HIV/AIDS who require nursing care.
• On April 29, the Emmanuel Dining Room Auction will be held at Barclays
Bank on the Wilmington Riverfront. The event features music, a delectable spread of food, live and silent auctions of amaz-
ing items and vacation packages, and a grand raffle drawing. Proceeds benefit the three Emmanuel Dining Room locations, which serve hundreds of meals each day to hungry and homeless people.
• On May 18, the Ministry holds its annual Recognition Dinner, honoring some of its most dedicated volunteers. The dinner is held at Francis X. Norton Center.
• Each August, the Delaware Burger Battle draws hundreds of hungry patrons to an afternoon of taste-testing, re- laxation and, of course, voting for the state’s best burger. Dozens of restaurants participate in the battle, which was held at Cauffiel House in 2016. All proceeds benefit the Ministry of Caring. For more information, visit www.deburgerbattle.com.
• Each fall, the Guild holds Eleganza, a luncheon and fashion show, benefiting
the Ministry’s emergency shelters and
Job Placement Center. The event features professional models showing off the latest fashions from renowned designers like Frank Lyman, and it is consistently sold out.
• The Ministry’s Crab Fest fundraiser debuted in October 2016 and was a huge success. A project of the Guild’s Millen- nial Committee, this festive gathering features delicious all-you-can-eat crabs, refreshing drinks and lots of friendly people, plus live music and games. The fest will return in 2017.
• Voices of Caring is the perfect way to kick off the holiday season each year. Typically held in early December, the event features live holiday music, deli- cious food and live and silent auctions. Proceeds benefit homeless and at-risk infants and children in the Ministry’s three childcare programs: Il Bambino, Guardian Angel Child Care and the Child Care Center.
