committee and five working groups. The Court charged the committee with examining diversity challenges along the continuum from pre-college education, college, law school, the bar exam and the practice of law to judicial appointments. After concluding its work, the Court asked the commit- tee to submit a report with concrete recommendations to promote greater diversity in Delaware’s legal profes- sion. To support the project’s work, the Court enlisted the National Center for State Courts — an organization promot- ing the rule of law and improving the administration of justice in state courts — and AccessLex Institute — a nonprofit with deep experience in law-related
diversity efforts. The steering commit- tee issued a comprehensive report and 50 recommendations.1 Highlighted below are just a few of the recommendations.
Pre-College Engagement
The Delaware Law Related Educa- tion Center, or DELREC, organizes the highly popular mock trial competi- tion and Law Day activities in Delaware high schools. Given its limited resourc- es, however, DELREC has not been able to expand into broader offerings of law-related educational opportuni- ties. With support from the Dela- ware Supreme Court, the DSBA, state and local government, law schools and educators, DELREC could expand its mission to provide in-depth civics pro- gramming and more tools and resourc- es for Delaware educators.
The Bar Exam and Alternative Admission Pathways
In 2026, the National Conference of Bar Examiners, or NCBE, plans to scrap the bar exam as we know it and create a new instrument to help state
