Sussex County Spotlight

IN THE HOTSEAT
Q: How easy is it to do business in Sussex County?
A: Doing business in Sussex County is fairly easy. There is a good deal of
business to business interaction in the County. Corrado Construction certainly hires plenty of subcontractors. Land development is bustling so we have an ample amount of work as well. The Sussex County agencies are competent, attentive and accessible, which contributes to the ease of doing business.
Q: You won the Delaware Contractors Association 2018 Excellence in Construction Award for your work on the Rehoboth Beach City Hall building. A couple of questions:
a. What challenges did you overcome in completing that project? A: The City Hall project was our first major project in Rehoboth. Corrado’s
work included tearing down the existing City Hall while leaving the Convention Center, which was attached, in place and intact. The site was cramped and the project’s phasing called for restricted access to the site, limiting our areas of work. Corrado was able to allow the City to move into their new building while still completing the balance of the project.
b. What do you think differentiated you against other companies being considered for that honor?
A: Corrado Construction Company’s policy is to strive for excellence
regardless of site conditions, timelines or scopes of work. Our management of the site and the teamwork among everyone involved led to the successful completion of the project – with a satisfied client.
Q: There’s been debate over whether Sussex County land can be both protected and developed. Where do you stand?
A: Both land protection and development are accomplished through government regulations placed on land developers. These regulations allow development while requiring land preservation during and after construction. Limiting land development and requiring restoration once the project is completed are two ways in which this balance can be achieved. The construction industry, the local economy and the promising future of Sussex County all benefit from these parallel interests.
Q: What does success in 2019 look like?
A: Corrado Construction is always assessing how we can improve the execution
of our projects. Utilizing the construction industry’s latest technologies, offering constructability assessments that result in cost-savings for our clients, participating in various workforce development initiatives and business-related efforts – these are some of the ways we chase, and find, success. The number of Corrado’s repeat clients is a testament to the pride we take in our work.
