When COVID-19 struck the Hudson Valley — with New Rochelle in Westchester as the country’s first hotspot — it drove home just how crucial the region’s healthcare systems are.
Residents are lucky to have top-notch medical care, treatment, and specialized services right here in our backyard. In addition, many of Manhattan’s top hospitals have expanded into the region, bringing state-of-the-art medical procedures and top physicians much closer to home.
One of the biggest impacts of the coronavirus on local healthcare was the expansion of telemedicine: for all but the sickest patients, virtual doctor’s visits became the norm. Across Westchester, hospitals and medical practices alike embraced the rapidly expanding field, bringingthesamelevelofcaredirectlyto patients’ homes. Telemedicine is proving its lasting appeal even as in-office medical care is once again available, and here, too, Westchester and the Hudson Valley offer residents a wealth of options:
Hospitals & Medical Centers
Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) Westchester in White Plains
offers orthopedic, rheumatologic, and rehabilitation care, treating all musculo- skeletal conditions, plus radiology and low-radiation imaging services.
Memorial Sloan Kettering is considered the nation’s leading cancer treatment center, and the hospital’s West Harrison facility offers chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and radiation.
NewYork-Presbyterian Westchester Division, located in White Plains, is a center for psychiatric care treating children, adolescents, and adults.
NewYork-Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville is an acute-care facility recognized for its high standards in patient care. New and revamped programs include a cancer center, cardiac catheterization laboratory, and a Center for Sleep Medicine.
NewYork-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital in Cortlandt Manor is an award-winning facility, recognized for its ambulatory surgery department, no-wait emergency room, stroke treatment, and brand-new maternity unit.
Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco is a member of Northwell Health, and boasts a state-of-the-art infant safety system that captures high- resolution digital footprints of newborns.
It has been recognized for its stroke care and geriatric emergency services.
Phelps Hospital Northwell Health
in Sleepy Hollow, also part of the Northwell Health system, offers cutting- edge technology like the da Vinci Xi surgical robot.
One of Westchester’s largest hospitals, St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Yonkers offers specialized programs in orthopedics, cardiology, and ge- riatrics. It also includes St. Vincent’s Hospital Westchester in Harrison which specializes in mental health and addiction services.
The first hospital in Westchester, St. John’s Riverside Hospital in Yonkers has been offering care for 150 years. It is known for its comprehensive behavioral health, stroke, and breast-care services.
In addition to being one of the area’s largest employers, Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla covers every adult and pediatric specialty. The hospital’s Westchester Medical Center Health Network includes Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital and the Behavioral Health Center in Valhalla, MidHudson Regional Hospital in Dutchess County, Good Samaritan Hospital in Rockland County, and Bon Secours Community Hospital and St. Anthony Community Hospital in Orange County.
The Montefiore Health System has been expanding its footprint in Westchester and now includes White Plains Hospital, which is opening a new 252,000 sq. ft. Center for Advanced Medicine & Surgery.
