In June, Clearwater’s Great Hudson River Revival at Croton Point Park offers seven stages of music by big-name performers. The Pleasantville Music Festival in July features both national and local rock acts while mid-September is Jazz Fest White Plains, which offers five days of local jazz performers at several locations. Checking out the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival at Boscobel House and Gardens in Garrison in a summer must; it runs from early June to early September.
Also in June, foodies rejoice for the week-long Westchester Magazine Wine & Food Festival, a celebration of gourmet food and drink at various venues across the county. It includes the ever-popular Burger & Beer Blast at Kensico Dam — al- ways a hit with local carnivores.
Expect outstanding live entertainment and lots of fireworks at Independence Day celebrations throughout Westchester County, like Rye Playland and Kensico Dam Plaza. In the Hudson Valley, West Point Band’s independence show is legendary for its unique chore- ography of live music and spectacular fireworks. For an outstanding view of fireworks in Poughkeepsie, purchase a ticket to the Walkway Over the Hudson’s spectacular show.
In the fall, one of the area’s biggest events, The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze, takes place in Croton-on-Hudson. This

illuminated pumpkin extravaganza on the grounds of historic Van Cortlandt Manor takes place from late September to late November. Other Historic Hudson Valley Halloween events include Irving’s Legend and Horseman’s Hollow.
Kick off the winter holiday season with a visit to Westchester’s Winter Wonderland at Kensico Dam Plaza, where you can catch the musical light show or holiday circus, ice skate, visit Santa, enjoy amusement-type rides, and view their 40-foot tree. Twilight Tours at Boscobel House and Gardens in Garrison has candlelight tours, live string music, and the mansion decorated for a 19th-century Christmas. Rhinebeck’s Sinterklaas Festival draws more than 10,000 visitors and celebrates the Hudson Valley’s Dutch heritage.
The Great Outdoors
Westchester has more than 50 county parks and recreation areas to explore. North-South County Trailway boasts 36 miles of bike trails through the county, with beautiful scenery and sights along the way. The Bronx River Pathway is a paved trail located immediately adjacent to the Bronx River Parkway, spanning central Westchester in three sections, totaling nine miles from Valhalla to Yonkers. Sites of interest include the Kensico Dam Plaza and Greenburgh Nature Center.
Right in the city of Yonkers, stroll through Untermyer Park & Gardens for Grecian gardens, a temple overlook- ing a mosaic pool, and sculptures around a Greek amphitheater. In Millbrook in Dutchess County, Innisfree Garden is an internationally acclaimed Chinese cup garden that features an idyllic walk- ing path. In Putnam County, Stonecrop Gardens in Cold Spring creates a qui- et, relaxed environment amid stunning beauty, and Clarence Fahnestock Memorial State Park is a 14,000-acre park with endless hiking trails and a beautiful beach.
Across the Hudson River, Bear Mountain State Park features hiking, biking, and cross-country ski trails, as well as a small zoo, an ice-skating rink, and a merry-go- round. Harriman State Park straddles both Orange and Rockland counties and boasts 31 lakes and reservoirs, plus 200 miles of hiking trails, beaches, camp- grounds, and other attractions.
The region’s bounty of agricultural attractions really shines in the fall, and families in Westchester flock to orchards like Harvest Moon Farm & Orchard and Outhouse Orchards, both in North Salem, Stuart’s Fruit Farm in Granite Springs, or Wilken’s Fruit & Fir Farm in Yorktown Heights for pick-your-own apples and pumpkins as well as hayrides and other fall fun. Favorite Hudson Valley spots for grabbing all-things apple related in- clude Barton Orchards in Poughquag, Salinger’s Orchard in Brewster, Lawrence Farms Orchards in Newburgh, and Wright Family Farm in Warwick.
