MANHATTANVILLE COLLEGE: A CRUCIBLE OF LEARNING
Dr. Michael Geisler didn’t plan on becoming a college president. After receiving the German Abitur, the Staatsexamen (equivalent to the M.A.) in English and German from the University of Mannheim, and then a PhD in German literature from the University of Pittsburgh, he served distinguished institutions, including MIT, Guilford College and Middlebury College en route to assuming the presidency of Manhattanville College in October 2016.
As president, he is charting a course for the College that will establish Manhattanville as a research hub and an intellectual crucible for life and learning in Westchester County, the Tristate area, and beyond. Geisler is working to build partnerships between the College and area businesses and organizations that provide opportunities for students to develop the personal and professional skills that will serve them well in the Westchester County workforce and beyond. “Our Center for Design Thinking, launching this fall, incorporates a collaborative, inclusive, problem-solving methodology into the curriculum and programs across the campus, so our students become adept at working as part of a team, using many different perspectives to solve a problem,” says Geisler. “The design-thinking method is used by many highly successful organizations, including MasterCard, Nike, ESPN and Uber, so our students will have those skills when they enter the workplace.”
It is for these reasons and many others that Manhattanville College is not only on the rise but is enhancing strong relationships throughout Westchester County every day.
