Talk to us about Fullerton Beck.
We’re a women-owned, full-service litigation firm in White Plains. We work with companies of all kinds, property and condo managers, and insurance companies throughout the New York metro area and New Jersey.
Why is Westchester the right place for you?
My partner, Eileen Fullerton, and I started practicing in the city for Corporation Counsel and then at different law firms in Westchester. Westchester is an ideal place for our firm, as there is access to skilled attorneys that align with our firm culture. We find great talent from Pace Law School, as well as qualified support staff. We also have lower overhead in Westchester, compared to Manhattan.
How would you describe your company culture?
Eileen and I come from collaborative backgrounds, which led us to create a firm founded on collaboration. It is at the core of everything we do, and we invest in things that facilitate it. We cherry-picked characteristics that we liked from our previous firms to create a culture that is authentic, empathetic, and nurturing.
How has COVID-19 impacted
your firm?
COVID-19 has impacted everyone, one way or another. We attempted to minimize the impact as much as possible through our cloud-based operations, which allowed our team to work from anywhere, effectively and seamlessly. Even before the mandated shutdown, we successfully moved to a remote work operation to be extra cautious. Some of our counterparts and the courts struggled a bit to pivot, but overall the pandemic has created a more cooperative environment, where plaintiffs and defendants have had to learn to work together to forge ahead.
Strategically, we took this time to grow, and hired a senior-level medical malpractice team. Times like these often present opportunities, so we decided to be bold and embrace them.
How has the BCW helped you?
TheBCWhasbeenaninvaluableresource. They give us concise, timely updates on changes in tax laws and loans. When Black Lives Matter happened, they were on the forefront of education, offering a series on diversity and inclusion and a leadership series on networking. It’s a tremendous wealth of information, resources and support. On a personal note, I
marvel at how Marsha Gordon is so quick, efficient and impactful. I can’t say enough about how supportive the BCW is.
What’s up next in 2021?
I am optimistic about us continuing down our charted path – one that supports our attorneys professionally and emotionally – and continues fostering a firm with a collegial culture. I’m proud of how we have successfully pivoted. It’s a true testament to the people who work for our firm. Personally, I will continue serving on the Board of Girls Inc. of Westchester; giving back to the community is one of my most meaningful personal values.
