                                    2/3 of businesses have fewer than 5 employees and
81% fewer than 10 employees. The borough also had 20 businesses with more than 1,000
employees, concentrated in health care and social assistance.
           The largest increases were reported in the number of
restaurants and grocery stores.
The
retail sector
was responsible for the largest number of businesses (3,800 firms), adding
almost 600 since 2007.
Leisure and hospitality, social assistance and personal services also experienced significant growth.
       The Bronx economy benefits from an extensive transportation network that includes 7 major highways and
7 subway lines. Ferry service will begin this summer, connecting the Soundview pier to East 90th Street, Midtown and Wall Street.
From 2000 to 2017, the Bronx accounted for nearly 14% of NYC’s job growth, showing an increase of 88,000 jobs.
