AROUND TOWN
Stoneleigh: A Natural Garden
Just like a brilliant flower emerging from winter’s chill, a new public garden
is set to bloom this spring. Stoneleigh, a 42-acre Villanova estate, recently was entrusted to Natural Lands, the region’s oldest and largest conservation organization. Until recently, Stoneleigh was the home of
the late John and Chara Haas (son and daughter-in-law of the co-founder of
the chemical company Rohm and Haas) and its grounds include stately trees, winding pathways and lush, natural gardens. Stoneleigh is located at County Line and North Spring Mill Roads in Villanova and will open to the public on May 13.
As with all of Natural Lands’ preserves, the grounds will be open from sunrise
to sunset 365 days a year and there will be no admission fee. For more information, visit NatLands.org.
A Gourmet Getaway
The Brandywine Country Cooking School at Hamanassett Bed & Break- fast combines an exclusive gourmet cooking class with a relaxing weekend getaway in a beautiful, English-style country inn. Classes are designed on a theme — such as “The Last Dinner on the Titanic” or “French Country Cook- ing” — and taught by professional chefs with specific training in the featured cuisine. Participants enjoy two nights’ accommodations with breakfasts, a welcoming reception and an extraordinary dinner prepared by the class. For class dates, themes and menus, visit Hamanassett.com/CookingSchool.html.
