DELCO
WE ARE A REGION WITH
A PERSONALITY SO
BIG THAT IT HAS TO BE
DIVIDED INTO PARTS.
 MAIN LINE
The term “The Main Line” refers
to a group of towns that run
along the former Main Line of the Pennsylvania Railroad, northwest from downtown Philadelphia. The Delaware County towns of Haverford, Villanova and Wayne run along Route 30
and are part of this suburban group that includes some of the wealthiest communities in the entire country. Here you will find expansive estates, classic architecture and a legacy of “old money” families. As a matter of fact, the Main Line was the setting for the Cary Grant/Katharine Hepburn/Jimmy Stewart classic “The Philadelphia Story.” The Main Line is a great place for upscale shopping and fine dining. There
are also exquisite hotels and inns and plenty of collegiate events at schools like Villanova University and Haverford College.
MAIN STREETS Our Main Streets are truly
the heart of our county —
the only section that touches all four other sections. These are communities like Broomall, Media
and Springfield, where family activities abound, and the feel of hometown Americana can reach out and grab you. Whether it’s Media’s trolley running right down the middle of
State Street, Broomall’s community Fourth of July parade or Springfield’s community pride, which can be felt during any home high school football game in the fall . . . the feeling of nostalgia is palpable. All these communities have great neighborhood pubs, impressive community theaters and biking and hiking trails to satisfy nature lovers of all types.
We like to think of ourselves as
having five distinct but complementary sections — MAIN LINE, MAIN STREETS, CROSSROADS, RIVERSIDE and BRANDYWINE. Together, they give Delaware County — or Delco, as locals affectionately
refer to it — the events, attractions and history that make us more than Philadelphia’s neighbor. They make
us a destination all on our own.
This is Destination Delco.
