Anytime we had discussed the idea of actually writing a book together, my father would end the conversation by saying that whatever we wrote would be for the Good Lord because, as he saw it, “He deserves it!”
“Now it’s finished,” he said as he handed it back to me. Later, he would call himself the “Tug
McGraw of Writers” because he came in at the end to win the big game, just like The Tugger in 1980.
I didn’t change a word of what he wrote that
day. The dedication page is and forever shall be the completion of something my father and I wrote together. I may have done the legwork,
but he summed it up perfectly with his 13-word dedication, bringing it back to its initial inspiration: “To our Father, who truly has it all in His hands — us included.”
