Volunteers continue beautification work at Verrazzano Monument

Popolazione detenute Italiana stimata in 61.000 con San Vittore piu affollata

ROMA – Alla fine dell’estate i detenuti presenti nelle 190 carceri
e 17 istituti minorili (Ipm) sono 61.140, con un indice di sovraffollamento a livello nazionale del 130,06%,
ma con punte che arrivano al 231,15% di San Vittore a causa dell'inagibilità di diverse aree di detenzione.
Sono i dati forniti dal Garante nazionale dei diritti delle persone private della libertà personale nel corso di una recente audizione al Senato.
I posti attualmente disponibili nelle carceri italiane ammontano a 46.982, rispetto alla capienza prevista di 51.269, con un divario di meno 4.262 posti: "da un ulteriore approfondimento si evince che tale criticità è dovuta all'attuale inagibilità di diverse camere
di pernottamento e in alcuni casi di intere sezioni detentive", come per esempio a San Vittore.
Sono 150 (pari al 79%) gli istituti con un indice di affollamento superiore al consentito che in 50 Istituti risulta superiore al 150% .

UNICO Rehoboth Area volunteers,
along with those from Rehoboth in Bloom,
a program sponsored by Rehoboth Beach Main Street, continue to promote the beautification of the downtown area at the Verrazzano Monument, Olive Avenue and the Boardwalk.
Several meetings have resulted in the removal of invasive plants and weeds from the area around the Verrazano Monument,
which is listed as the most-visited historical monument in Delaware. New flowers, plants and trees – conducive to the beach-front area – will be placed on the grounds in the fall and continued throughout the year.
This ongoing project has been encouraged repeatedly by organizations (including the Delaware Commission on Italian Heritage and Culture which had this monument erected in 2008), as well as residents of Rehoboth Beach and visitors. IAH
