Delco Pride and Traditions Run Deep
Delaware County may be small in size, but we’re big on pride and tradition. Many residents have fond memories of attending concerts in Rose Tree Park, going to the Festival of Lights, enjoying the fall at Linvilla Orchards or seeing a show at the Tower Theater and now, they are experiencing some of those things with their children and grandchildren.
This issue showcases many of Delaware County’s iconic destinations and seasonal favorites. Delco residents are blessed to have diverse attractions, restaurants, venues to experience the arts, and green spaces
across the county to enjoy. Many of the destinations featured in this issue are ones
that I’ve had the opportunity to visit with my family and friends. Locations such as the Brandywine River Museum of Art, the Upper Darby Performing Arts Center, Linvilla Orchards, the Delaware County Historical Society’s Museum and Library, Rose Tree Park, and the Sports Legends of Delaware County Museum are just some of the few great destinations we have right here in our own backyard.
Delaware County Council has always had a great partnership with Destination Delco and we were fortunate to work with a man whose passion for all things Delaware County was evident. Sadly, Salvatore John “Tore” Fiore passed away in April. As the Executive Director of Destination Delco since 2004, Tore worked to enhance the image, build the commerce, attract tourists, and sustain the hospitality industry in Delaware County.
During his tenure, he grew hotel occupancy rates and partnered with Visit Philadelphia® to broaden the city’s appeal to include Delaware County’s rich cultural attractions. He leaves behind a legacy of dedication and passion for our county and will be sorely missed.
On behalf of Delaware County Council, I encourage all residents to take advantage of the wide range of history, culture, and special events in our community this season. You don’t need to go far to enjoy a great meal, shop, enjoy the arts, learn about history, hike or bike, and celebrate the fall and winter seasons. It’s all right here in Delco. We hope you enjoy the Destination!
