 FIVE EXPERIENCES
             CROSSROADS Our Crossroads section
serves as the gateway from
Philadelphia to the suburbs. Residents of these townships and boroughs enjoy a bustling wealth
of cultures, cuisines, languages,
and landscapes. From retailers to restaurants, doctors to dentists, the Crossroads boasts an eclectic mix of locally owned shops and businesses. Community and cultural offerings, such as Lansdowne’s Memorial Day Parade and Upper Darby’s Sikh Parade, are just a sampling of the dozens of annual events that enliven these towns. Visitors can easily “pop in” thanks to Upper Darby’s 69th Street public transportation hub in the
center of the action, making it
super convenient to enjoy the
varied sights, sounds and flavors these communities have to offer.
 RIVERSIDE
The Delaware River is the southern
boundary of our county line.
The Riverside is made up of communities like Ridley Park, Tinicum Township, and Chester. These are the towns where our “work-hard, play-hard” mentality really takes hold. Our Major League Soccer team, the Philadelphia Union, plays here, at Talen Energy Stadium in Chester. At historic Fort Mifflin, guests can stand on a Revo- lutionary War battlefield, inside a Civil War prison and next to a magazine storing gunpowder during World War II all in one visit. The John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge at Tinicum is an Important bird area as designated by the National Audubon Society. People here tend to have a strong work ethic and a sense of local pride that comes from a history of building major American companies such as Scott Paper, Boeing, and Sun Oil. Perhaps more than any other part
of Delco, the Riverside is where the heritage of building the American dream runs deep.
BRANDYWINE And, finally, there is the
Brandywine, the western
edge of our county. This is where our landscape changes from suburbia into countryside — filled with historic farmsteads, rolling hills, horse farms, wineries and battle- fields. This is the home to the iconic American art family, the Wyeths,
and their paintings are on view in
a restored grist mill. A number of wineries can be found nestled in
our hills as well as elegant inns
and estates. The Brandywine Battlefield is a memorial to the largest engagement of the Revolutionary War and popular annual events, like Chadds Ford Historical Society’s Great Pumpkin Carve and the Candlelight Christmas Tour, make the Brandywine a perfect place to unwind and relax in style.
