DANA Letter
We continue to be so thankful for the generosity of Delawareans who have been able to contribute to nonprofits in the state. In a year where so many have been impacted by the pandemic and its effects, Delaware nonprofits have been in our local communities working hard to support families, strengthen community, lift our souls, and care for our pets and the environment. At a time when the
demand for their services has gone up, the resources they can tap into to meet the demand has gone down.
Many nonprofits that traditionally benefit from volunteers are now asking staff
or hiring additional staff to meet service needs. The cost of gas, technology, and supplies means a dollar does not stretch as far. And the need to retain and support employees as they conduct their work in a health-safe environment has never been more important.
As DANA, the Delaware Alliance for Nonprofit Advancement, speaks to nonprofit leaders a common theme emerges – they need support to help strengthen their organizations. Yes, they need funding to keep their programs operational, but the non-programmatic costs are just as concerning.
This is where unrestricted donations can make the most difference. Making a gift with no strings attached means nonprofit leaders can deploy those resources in the most impactful way. It may mean your gift helps to pay for electricity or cover health benefits for an employee. It could cover the annual audit or invest in innovation to help more clients access their services.
Another impactful way to aid nonprofits is by sharing your talent and time. Nonprofits are seeking more volunteers, from those who can help deliver food and assist in beach clean-ups to those who could answer the phone, share professional talent, or assist with small projects.
As we look towards the new year, consider how you can make a difference in strengthening a nonprofit organization so it can make the greatest impact in your community.
Sincerely,
Sheila Bravo
